Self-Representation

Self-Representation - Hammond Osborne Lawyers and Mediators

In family law matters you have the option to be self-represented.

The challenge is how you can be effective as your own advocate without the benefit of legal training.

On a Limited Retainer basis, our lawyers can assist you as a self-represented person with the following:

  • Legal advice in relation to the issues
  • How to advance or defend a claim
  • The preparation of documentation
  • How to present in Court

In this arrangement the lawyer is an advisor only. Therefore not expected to be in Court with you, the client.

The Limited Retainer Agreement, which the lawyer and the client sign, clearly defines in detail each of their responsibilities.

The client decides when the lawyer’s help is needed and therefore is billed accordingly.
